Ben Wang is reportedly in talks to play Iceman in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. According to Deadline, the actor is being considered for the role of Bobby Drake, also known as the icy mutant hero.
Wang is reportedly one of several actors who have tested for the part. Other names linked to the role include Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly and Rhenzy Feliz. Marvel has not announced who will ultimately play Iceman.
The potential casting suggests that Iceman could have a role in the planned 2028 X-Men film. The character has been a significant part of Marvel’s comics for decades and has appeared in animated projects and video games. Shawn Ashmore previously played Iceman in the original X-Men film, its two sequels and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Wang has recently taken on several higher-profile projects. After early appearances in shows and films including the MacGyver reboot, The Last O.G. and Sight, he appeared in Mean Girls and Karate Kid: Legends. He also played Hank Olson in the 2025 adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk.
The actor is set to appear as Wyatt Callow in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. A role in the X-Men reboot would add another major franchise project to his growing filmography.
Marvel has already confirmed several cast members for the film, including Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Asa Germann was also reported to have joined the cast as Angel.
The X-Men reboot is directed by Jake Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts*, and is scheduled to reach theaters on May 5, 2028. Wang’s casting remains unconfirmed, and it is also unclear whether Shawn Ashmore will return as Iceman for Avengers: Doomsday.
