Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure Arcade is a new video game adaptation of the 1989 film, being developed by Australian studio Art of Play Interactive and Roditeli Productions. The retro-style beat ’em up is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles and Switch, though a release date has not been announced.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will voice the pixel-art versions of Bill and Ted. The game focuses on events from the first film, tasking players with meeting historical characters and challenging them to mini-games to earn their respect and recruit them for the duo’s history presentation.
The developers say the game will retell the film’s story in a format similar to Terminator 2D: NO FATE. Art of Play Interactive’s previous projects include The Phantom and Lady Death Demonicron, while Danger Mouse is among its upcoming titles.
A crowdfunding campaign is planned for Backerkit in early 2027. Backers will be able to choose a digital copy for one of the announced platforms or physical editions, including one designed to resemble a Super Nintendo cartridge. The campaign will also offer promotional cards depicting Rufus’s phone booth, Bill and Ted, and historical characters from the film.
Art of Play Interactive said it does not use generative AI in its games, trailer or marketing materials, describing the project as the work of people with a genuine love for their craft.
