The Borderlands franchise has sold more than 100 million copies, Gearbox Software has announced. The first-person action role-playing series debuted in 2009 and has since expanded across several mainline games and spin-offs.
In a message thanking fans, the studio highlighted content released for Borderlands 4 over the past year and said it is already working on what players can expect in 2027. Gearbox added that its plans will take time and that it will share more when the time is right, while saying it is listening to the community.
Borderlands 4, the latest mainline entry, launched last September for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Development of a version for Switch 2 has been paused, according to the information provided.
The franchise also includes titles such as Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Tales from the Borderlands, New Tales from the Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. It has also had a film adaptation.
