The Borderlands franchise has surpassed 100 million units sold, according to Gearbox Software. The studio credited Borderlands 4 with taking the series past the milestone, though it has not disclosed the game’s individual sales figures.

Gearbox says it has completed Borderlands 4’s first-year roadmap and is preparing more content for next year. Weekly activity refreshes and Community Challenges will also continue, the developer said in a blog post.

Beyond Borderlands 4, Gearbox is taking a broader look at the franchise and listening to fans about which characters they would like to see more of. The studio did not announce a new game, and said future plans need time before it can share more.

The series had sold 94 million units through August 2025, according to the information cited in the report. Borderlands 2 remains its best-selling entry, with 31 million units sold, followed by Borderlands 3 at 23 million. Gearbox and publisher Take-Two Interactive have not provided a sales breakdown for Borderlands 4, so its position among the games is not yet clear.
