Brandon Sanderson has begun outlining the sixth book in The Stormlight Archive, though he has not started writing the novel. In his November 3 weekly update, the author said he plans to begin drafting in January 2028.
Sanderson expects to use 2027 to outline books six through ten, allowing him to prepare for the second half of the series in advance. That schedule depends on his main writing goal for next year: completing Ghostbloods 2 and 3.
He has also discussed a tentative release plan for the remaining Stormlight Archive books. Sanderson expects the first two or three books in the second half to arrive every two or three years, beginning around 2031.
Sanderson provided an update on the Mistborn film adaptation as well. He is writing the screenplay himself, and its second draft is 35% complete, up from roughly a quarter the previous week. Apple has also confirmed a television adaptation of The Stormlight Archive.
