Just two years after releasing Wind and Truth to conclude the first half of The Stormlight Archive, Brandon Sanderson is already outlining a potential timeline for the series' second half. During a recent Halloween stream, where he appeared in a Shrek costume, the author revealed he has a loose schedule prepared for the remaining five books. When asked if a three-year gap between releases starting in 2031 was realistic, Sanderson confirmed it was but immediately suggested an even faster pace might be possible.

Sanderson teased that upon the series' return, readers could see two or three books released consecutively with only two years separating each volume. The final two entries would likely follow shortly after this initial burst. The author expressed a strong urge to return to writing the series soon, noting that once he begins, he expects to move through the first few installments quickly. This ambitious pace aligns with Sanderson's reputation for consistently producing novels across his wider Cosmere universe.

The Stormlight Archive, which launched in 2010 with The Way of Kings, is planned as a ten-book series divided into two distinct arcs. A significant time skip is confirmed to occur between the fifth and sixth books. While planning for the series' completion over a decade from now may seem ambitious, it reflects the author's ability to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Beyond The Stormlight Archive, Sanderson has several other major commitments. On December 8, he will release the print edition of The Fires of December, a standalone story under the Hoid's Travails banner. He is also preparing to begin the third era of the Mistborn series with Ghostbloods, currently scheduled for December 2028, followed by two additional books in 2029 and 2030 if his tentative plans hold.

In addition to his writing schedule, Sanderson is overseeing multiple live-action adaptations through an unprecedented deal with Apple TV Plus that grants him significant creative control. His first project under this agreement is a film adaptation of the original Mistborn trilogy, for which he is writing the script. A television adaptation of The Stormlight Archive is also currently in development.
