Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything edged out Clayface at the domestic box office over Halloween weekend. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s film earned an estimated $10.6 million, compared with $10.4 million for the DCU movie, although the positions could change once final figures are tallied Monday.
Despite placing second in North America, Clayface remained comfortably ahead worldwide, with $22.8 million for the weekend compared with the documentary’s limited international release. You Can See Everything’s domestic result is notable because it reached the top spot during what is technically its third weekend in theaters.
The documentary was initially released in only 855 theaters on October 16. Strong word-of-mouth and favorable reviews helped it expand, and Letterboxd identified it as the highest-rated feature film in the platform’s history at the time. It had also opened in second place behind Street Fighter before returning to that position when Clayface debuted domestically the previous weekend.
Both films recorded solid performances over the latest three-day period. You Can See Everything fell 43% in its second weekend, while Clayface declined 57% in its second outing. The documentary has earned $64 million worldwide so far, while Clayface’s global total stands at $82.9 million.
You Can See Everything reportedly cost less than $20 million when production and marketing are combined. Clayface is believed to have a $44 million production budget. The DCU film stars Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie and brings the Batman villain to the big screen through a tragic origin story.
Elsewhere, Resident Evil rose from fifth place worldwide the previous weekend to fourth over Halloween and has now reached $400 million against a reported $75 million budget. Laika’s Wildwood earned $11.54 million globally during the weekend, bringing its two-week total to $35.17 million against a reported $100 million budget.
Upcoming releases include Godzilla Minus Zero on November 6, with earlier screenings planned for Godzilla Day on November 3, followed by I Play Rocky and The Cat in the Hat. Denis Villeneuve’s first two Dune films will return to theaters on November 13 ahead of Dune: Part 3, while The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping arrives November 20 and Focker In-Law follows on November 25.
