Collins Dictionary has added “friendslop,” a term for a growing category of casual co-op video games played with friends. The dictionary defines it as a low-budget, independently produced game designed for informal group play.
The Word joins a range of new additions, including “mogging,” which Collins named its Word of the Year. Mogging means outshining someone in a particular respect, such as appearance, status, wealth or height.
Alex Beecroft, managing director of Collins, said the selection reflects how younger generations adopt words and reshape their meanings through humorous slang. He added that the dictionary tracks both how often words are used and patterns in their usage.
Examples of games described as friendslop include Peak, Gamble With Your Friends, Lethal Company and R.E.P.O. The source also points to Big Walk as a recent example of the style, highlighting its co-op puzzles and open-world exploration.
