Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Afeni Shakur in Snoop, the upcoming biopic about Snoop Dogg. Erivo is known for playing Elphaba in the film adaptation of Wicked. Production began in September 2026, with Jonathan Daviss playing a young Snoop Dogg.
Afeni Shakur was Tupac Shakur’s mother, a member of the Black Panther Party and an activist. After her son died in 1996, she established the Georgia-based Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation for young people interested in the arts. She also founded Amaru Entertainment to release Tupac’s previously unreleased music.
Tupac and Snoop reportedly first met while working on the 1993 film Poetic Justice and later collaborated on tracks for Tupac’s album All Eyez on Me. Snoop is scheduled for release on August 6, 2027.
