Dave Bautista has revealed that he now weighs 113 kg while training to play Kratos in Prime Video’s live-action God of War series. Building muscle is part of his preparation to resemble the central character from Sony Santa Monica’s video games.
In a post on Instagram, Bautista said he had gained an additional 9 kg, equivalent to around 20 pounds, to reach his current weight. The actor reportedly had approximately two months to prepare for the role, as Amazon and Sony aim to restart production as quickly as possible.
Bautista took over the part after Ryan Hurst, who had previously been cast as Kratos, suffered an injury in August. As well as preparing for the character, Bautista will need to film scenes that Hurst had already completed, creating additional work for the production team and the actors involved.
