Enshrouded’s 1.0 release expands a survival-crafting RPG that stands out for its destructible, buildable world and handcrafted discoveries. Set in Embervale, a land damaged by the poisonous Shroud, the game gives players broad freedom to shape their surroundings while exploring ruins, gathering resources and uncovering stories through journals.

The game blends survival systems with action-RPG progression, but avoids several harsher genre conventions. Players can cook, farm and raise animals without facing mechanics such as fatigue or structural integrity, and survival needs can be adjusted through custom difficulty settings. Building is a particular strength: a wide selection of furniture and decorations encourages players to personalize their homes, while comfort at home provides a stamina bonus. Version 1.0 also adds a build camera to make construction in cramped spaces easier.

Exploration and character progression provide much of the motivation. Flameborn characters can develop through 12 skill trees, supporting roles such as tank, assassin and wizard. The large Hollow Halls dungeons make those complementary abilities especially useful in groups, while boss fights offer more demanding encounters than a straightforward exchange of attacks. The review also highlights voice narration added to the journals, which gives the game’s accounts of Embervale’s past a storybook quality.

The 1.0 update introduces Sparkworks, a logic system for creating custom events, enemy encounters, dungeons and other world designs that can be shared with other players. The reviewer also praises the game’s continued supply of materials, weapons and hidden locations to discover, describing its world as unusually detailed for the genre.

Some issues remain in multiplayer. Quest objectives can become difficult to follow when players progress through the world at different times, leaving returning teammates with different journal lists. The review says these discrepancies did not block access to recipes or biomes, but could cause confusion. Groups larger than two or three are also advised to use a dedicated server, as performance improvements in version 1.0 have not eliminated occasional severe lag spikes.

Despite those caveats, the review sees Enshrouded as a standout survival-crafting game. Its flexible construction tools, extensive role options and carefully made world form the core of an experience that continues to reward exploration after hundreds of hours.
