Bethesda’s latest tease for The Elder Scrolls 6 revealed the title Sentinel, giving fans fresh material for theories about the long-awaited game. The announcement also shared a line attributed to a Moth Priest serving Hammerfell’s High Queen Iradne, prompting speculation about the story and setting.
Hammerfell is the clearest part of the picture so far. The original 2018 teaser pointed toward the Redguards’ homeland, and Sentinel is a major city in the province. But the game might not be limited to Hammerfell: High Rock, a neighboring region across the Iliac Bay, could also appear, either in the main game or as additional content.
The Moth Priest’s words may point to a larger role for the Elder Scrolls themselves. These artifacts, known for their connection to knowledge of the past, present and future, have appeared throughout the series but have not been at the center of a game’s main plot. The quote could introduce a prophecy, or Sentinel could explore the artifacts’ mysteries in greater depth.
The Iliac Bay has also revived hopes that players will be able to sail. The bay lies between Hammerfell and High Rock and contains numerous islands, giving the game a potential setting for boat travel and exploration. Sailing has long been a fan-requested feature, though the available information does not confirm that it will be included.
Another enduring mystery is the Dwemer, an ancient people who vanished after interacting with the Heart of Lorkhan. Their ruins appear in earlier games, but the fate of the race remains unexplained. Fans have speculated that Sentinel could finally address their disappearance, although their return is unconfirmed.
Finally, the game could continue the conflict between Hammerfell and the Thalmor. The province broke away from the Empire after the White-Gold Concordat, which required the Empire to give up parts of Hammerfell to the Aldmeri Dominion. The Redguards later drove the Thalmor out, but the latest teaser’s quote has been interpreted as placing the game around 4E 206, leaving room for the aftermath of the war to shape Sentinel’s story.
