FromSoftware has taken the online services for Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin and Dark Souls III offline on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One after detecting a security vulnerability. The servers have been unavailable since October 30, and the company has not said when they will return.
Both games remain playable in single-player mode. However, players cannot see other users’ ghosts or death markers, summon other players, or take part in invasions and duels while the online features are disabled.
FromSoftware initially described the shutdown as a response to a server issue and said it would provide updates when more information was available. On November 2, the company said the servers had been temporarily suspended because of security vulnerabilities and apologized for the disruption.
The latest suspension follows a previous security-related shutdown in 2022, when servers for several FromSoftware games were taken offline. Dark Souls III’s servers were down for more than seven months, while those for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls Remastered remained offline for nine months. Online play for Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition was permanently discontinued.
The current outage has not affected Elden Ring, Elden Ring: Nightreign or Bloodborne, according to the information available.
