Google has launched a nostalgic Easter egg tied to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, capitalizing on renewed interest following the game's remake. When users type "zelda" or "Ocarina of Time" into the search bar, a glowing Master Sword appears in the bottom right corner of the screen. Clicking this icon transports the browser back to 1998, recreating the search engine as it appeared during that era.

The retro interface displays Google's bygone logo featuring an exclamation mark and utilizes an old-fashioned Times New Roman-style font for blue links. Unlike the modern version of the site, this nostalgic mode lists results strictly by order of importance and relevance. It notably excludes AI-generated search results, shopping links, and advertisements, presenting a streamlined experience reminiscent of the early web.

This feature arrives as Google faces significant financial challenges. Last week, the company lost $475 billion in stock market value, marking its worst-performing day ever after missing ad revenue targets. Analysts attribute this decline partly to the company's own AI search product cannibalizing traditional ad revenue. The Easter egg serves as a stark contrast to current operations, highlighting a time when the platform was viewed as a beacon of unlimited information before evolving into its current state.
