With the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake only a few days away, Google is marking the return of the classic Zelda adventure with a new interactive Easter egg.
To activate it, users only need to search for “zelda” on Google. A Master Sword will then appear in the corner of the screen, resting on its pedestal inside the Temple of Time. Clicking or tapping the sword places it into the pedestal, triggering Link’s cry and a visual effect designed to simulate a journey through time.
Once the animation ends, Google displays a version of its search page styled after 1998, the year the original game was released on Nintendo 64. The recreation features the simpler, text-focused results of that era, without AI-based assistants, as well as the classic “I’m Feeling Lucky” option, which directed users to a random result.
The retro design is limited to the Zelda-themed page. Users cannot continue browsing Google with the 1998 interface active.
This is not Google’s first video game-related Easter egg. Searching for The Last of Us, for example, displays a red fungus that users can click to trigger an effect resembling Cordyceps growth.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is listed for Nintendo Switch 2, with a release date of November 5, 2026. The game is classified as an action RPG and is being developed by Nintendo EAD and published by Nintendo.
