With the official release of the Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time just days away, Google has launched a digital celebration honoring the landmark Nintendo adventure. This latest tribute joins a history of video game homages from the search engine, ranging from an interactive Super Mario question block in 2015 to a Pokédex mini-game that remains active today.
To trigger this new Easter egg, users simply need to search for terms related to the upcoming title, such as "Zelda," "Ocarina of Time," or "tloz." Upon doing so, a graphic of the iconic Master Sword appears in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Clicking the sword plays Link's signature "Hya!" scream and causes the Triforce to take over the display.
The interaction transforms the entire page, reverting Google's search results to their 1998 appearance, coinciding with the original release year of Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. Users can click the sword again to return to the modern version of the search engine. While the feature serves as a nostalgic nod to gaming history, it also highlights how significantly the search platform has evolved since the late 1990s.
