Guild Wars: Afterlife will bring new paid content to the original Guild Wars when it launches on January 13, 2027. The expansion takes players beyond Tyria and into the Mists, where they will explore Xotecha, a lost land associated with the long-cancelled Utopia campaign and described as having a mystical, Mesoamerican-inspired setting.

A central feature is the Unformed, an ever-changing dungeon in Xotecha designed so that each run differs. Players will also be able to use a skill-drafting system to adjust their abilities during a run. Rewards earned in Afterlife can be taken out of the Mists, though the skill-drafting mechanic appears to be specific to Xotecha.

Afterlife is the original game’s second full expansion, following 2007’s Eye of the North. Players will need Guild Wars Reforged, the 2025 re-release, to access it. The expansion is scheduled to arrive on PC, Steam, the App Store, and Google Play for $30, with pre-orders available for $24.
