Guild Wars Afterlife is set to launch on January 13, 2027, marking the first major gameplay update for the original Guild Wars in nearly 20 years. The update is being developed by ArenaNet and co-development studio 2Weeks, and will be available on PC and mobile.
Afterlife will introduce a dynamic dungeon that changes after each run, alongside a skill-drafting system that lets players build a different skill bar for each attempt. It will also add a new narrative, characters to meet and the region of Xotecha to explore.
The update will cost $29.99, €29.99 or £25.99. Players who pre-order before its January 13 release can get a 20 percent discount.
Guild Wars’ last major release of new content was the Eye of the North expansion in August 2007. ArenaNet later shifted much of its focus to Guild Wars 2, while keeping the original game’s servers online. More recently, Guild Wars Reforged upgraded the original MMO, and the game received a new dungeon in April.
Afterlife is part of ArenaNet’s ongoing support for Guild Wars Reforged. The studio is also developing and supporting Guild Wars 2 and the upcoming action-oriented Guild Wars 3.
