Avalon Hill's deluxe rerelease of the classic dungeon crawl board game HeroQuest is receiving a digital adaptation courtesy of Nomad Games. The developer, known for previously bringing titles like Talisman, Love Letter, and Fury of Dracula to digital platforms, will translate the original experience of goblin-bashing, trap-disarming, treasure-hunting, and spell-casting into a new format.

The digital edition will support both solo play, where the computer assumes the role of the Evil Wizard and his minions, and online multiplayer. Up to four players can join as heroes, with an optional fifth player taking control of the villainous Zargon. The game is based on the American version of the board game, meaning characters like Morcar will not be included.

A key feature highlighted in the announcement is the inclusion of a quest editor, allowing players to create their own maps and missions. Through integration with mod.io, users will also be able to download quests created by other members of the community. While specific rule additions from HeroQuest First Light have not been officially confirmed, there is hope among fans that mechanics such as moving eight squares per turn without rolling dice when no monsters are present may be included to streamline dungeon traversal.

HeroQuest: Digital Edition is scheduled for release on Steam in 2027. Prior to the full launch, a closed beta playtest is expected to begin soon.
