Horror games have generated $1.3 billion on Steam in 2026, a 17% increase compared with 2025, according to figures from Alinea Analytics. The genre represents 7% of all spending on the platform this year.
Resident Evil is the leading franchise in the market, with its games earning a combined $850 million across platforms. On Steam, Resident Evil Requiem tops the revenue chart with $211.3 million. Remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4, along with Resident Evil Village, also rank among the platform’s biggest horror earners.
Independent releases are contributing to the trend. Co-op games including The Outlast Trials, R.E.P.O. and Phasmophobia remain popular, while Escape the Backrooms has had its best year on Steam. The source credits its film adaptation and recent console release with helping drive that performance.
Recent releases have also posted notable figures: Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival brought in $13.1 million in a few weeks, while Silent Hill: Townfall generated $20.2 million.
