Jing Ye the Outlaw is one of the mounted bosses encountered in Phantom Blade Zero. His combination of a horse, a shield and dangerous ranged attacks makes the fight particularly demanding, but each phase has a clear strategy.
During the first phase, Jing Ye frequently launches guided projectiles. Blocking them for too long can cause significant damage and build up the bleeding effect. When the projectiles approach, perform a double forward dodge to send them behind Soul, then block until the attack ends. This approach reduces the risk of taking damage or suffering from bleeding.
The boss also creates clouds of dust and smoke. Keeping the camera locked on him makes these attacks easier to manage: dodge out of the affected area so Jing Ye follows you, or block in anticipation. Whenever he charges past on horseback, block his attack and counterattack immediately. Continue reducing his health until he is knocked from his mount.
Before the second phase begins, equipping the Shieldbreaker Talisman and the Formidable Axe is recommended if they are available. On foot, Jing Ye has a blue shield bar and a thorn effect that drains Soul’s health whenever he is hit. Perfect parries and perfect dodges against his special attacks can let you move behind him, although this method is slow and must be used while he continues to launch projectiles.
The Formidable Axe provides a faster way to destroy the shield. Charge the weapon when possible, or press the attack twice after upgrading it to level five, according to the guide.
Once the shield is broken, Jing Ye becomes more aggressive with his greatsword. This can create opportunities for repeated perfect parries. However, attacks surrounded by a black halo break the guard and must be dodged to prevent the loss of the entire Sha-Chi bar.
Changing weapons instantly restores all endurance, or Sha-Chi. It is therefore useful to switch weapons regularly when the orange bar is nearly empty, particularly when Jing Ye chains attacks or after using a Sha-Chi combo. This helps prevent Soul’s guard from breaking.
Defeating Jing Ye clears the path and rewards the Outlaw Warrior Blade. The two-handed weapon deals heavy damage across a wide area, damages shields and restores health through its basic attacks by draining enemies. Its focused technique drains a large amount of health from the target while restoring half of Soul’s own HP. Its Sha-Chi attacks also deal considerably more damage while draining health, creating a high-risk playstyle with strong damage output.
