Jagex has officially partnered with developer Games by Malcs to transform the sequel of the popular idle game, Melvor Idle, into an authorized RuneScape spinoff. The new title will be known as Melvor Idle 2: A RuneScape Adventure, marking a formal recognition of the long-standing inspiration the indie project has drawn from Jagex's classic MMORPG.

In an announcement blog post, Jagex acknowledged that Melvor Idle captures the essence of their franchise, stating that the game takes significant inspiration from RuneScape. While the sequel will not take place in Gielinor, the setting of the main MMO series, Jagex believes the fan-built title is worthy of carrying the official branding to help expand its reach.

This collaboration marks a deeper integration between the two parties than their previous relationship. Five years ago, Jagex became the publisher for the original Melvor Idle, but this new partnership introduces an official subtitle and branding connection. Addressing potential concerns regarding monetization, which have historically surrounded RuneScape, the announcement explicitly confirms that Melvor Idle 2 will feature no microtransactions.

The sequel is described as a larger version of the familiar idle RPG experience, boasting overhauled visuals and an increased level cap of 120. Although the game does not utilize the specific lore or worldbuilding of the RuneScape universe, it retains the core mechanics that define the genre, appealing to players who enjoy the progression systems characteristic of both titles.
