Bend Studio, the Sony-owned developer behind Days Gone and the Syphon Filter series, appears to be nearing completion on a new unannounced action game featuring cooperative gameplay. According to a leak from MP1st, the project could be ready for announcement and release in 2027, a timeline that surprises industry observers who had estimated a four-to-five-year development cycle following the studio's previous major title.
Following the 2019 launch of Days Gone, which received a remaster in 2025, Bend Studio began work on a live-service game. However, this project was cancelled last year after the director and creative director departed the studio, with Sony showing no interest in continuing the Deacon St. John license. While this cancellation initially suggested a long hiatus before the studio's next release, the new leak indicates that development is far more advanced than anticipated.
The upcoming title is described as a third-person shooter with co-op options but will not follow a live-service model. Instead of receiving continuous content updates over several years, it is expected to be a classic adventure designed for single-player or cooperative play. The accelerated production timeline, estimated at just three years, suggests the team may be recycling ideas and content from the previously cancelled project.
Although the leak points to a potential 2027 launch, the schedule remains subject to change due to development hurdles or strategic calendar decisions by PlayStation. Speculation exists that Sony might prioritize Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as its flagship title for the upcoming autumn, potentially pushing Bend Studio's new game to early 2028.
