Fifteen years after the release of Megan Is Missing, the controversial cult horror film has received an unexpected sequel series. Megan Is Missing: Evil Never Dies was written and directed by Michael Goi, who also made the original, and can now be watched for free on Instagram.
The project was released gradually through episodes and teasers shared by Goi, members of the cast and influencers. Its complete 36-episode run is now available on the platform.
Goi said that audiences had asked for years to see the story continue, but that he had not previously felt the timing was right. He also explained that the sequel uses Instagram's vertical format to bring viewers closer to the disturbing events shown on screen and make them feel more involved in the characters' experiences.
The original Megan Is Missing premiered in 2011 and followed high school students Megan and Amy after Megan began communicating with a stranger online. Presented through found footage, video chats and webcam recordings, the film became known for its bleak subject matter and disturbing ending. Although it initially attracted limited attention, it gained a much wider audience on TikTok in 2020, prompting Goi to issue a warning about its brutal scenes.
For the sequel, Rachel Quinn and Amber Perkins return as versions of themselves. The pair are invited to appear on a podcast, but the host has hidden motives and sinister plans. The full series is available to watch on Instagram.
