Krafton and Netflix have officially announced a live-action television series based on the popular video game PUBG. The project will feature Emmy Award-winner Donald Glover in a multifaceted role; he is set to star in the show while also serving as director, writer, and executive producer. His brother, Stephen Glover, will join the production team as both a writer and an executive producer.
According to Krafton's initial announcement, details regarding the series remain limited, suggesting the project is still in its early stages of development. In addition to this live-action adaptation, an animated series based on PUBG is also in the works, with Adi Shankar, known for his work on Castlevania, attached to the project.
Donald Glover brings prior experience in the gaming industry to this venture. Earlier this year, he provided the voice for Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and previously collaborated with Ubisoft on a promotional trailer for Far Cry 4. Krafton has consistently positioned PUBG as more than just a standalone game, viewing it instead as a connected universe, which aligns with their expansion into television media.
The source material, PUBG, is a battle royale title where players compete to be the last individual or team remaining. The game continues to maintain significant popularity, currently recording peak concurrent user counts exceeding 785,000 on the Steam platform alone.
