Netflix is testing AI Discover, a new feature designed to help viewers find something to watch when they are unsure what they want. Announced on November 3, it appears at the far right of the top bar in the TV app and starts by offering a selection of themes.

Examples provided by Netflix include “Outsmart Everyone,” “Family Scandal Sagas” and “Royal Court Intrigue.” Themes can reflect a viewer’s mood, who they are watching with or how much time they have, as well as recent viewing history and popular picks.

After a viewer chooses a theme, AI Discover suggests related options and can offer more specific themes to narrow the search. Those looking for a different direction can select “Something Different” to refresh the suggestions.

A “Tune Your Recommendations” button lets viewers save an AI recommendation or indicate that they do not want a particular show suggested. Netflix says the feature learns from members’ feedback and adjusts its recommendations accordingly.

The company described AI Discover as a “test kitchen” for experimenting with new ways to help members find content. Netflix says viewers’ use and feedback will help it decide which approaches to keep or improve, and that some may eventually become part of the main service.

The feature is rolling out to US members who use Netflix in English on supported TVs, with wider availability planned over the coming weeks.
