New Blood Interactive CEO Dave Oshry says he would prefer to close the studio than sell it or bring in investors to keep it operating. The company, which is marking its 12th anniversary, has released games including Dusk, Gloomwood, Amid Evil, Fallen Aces and Ultrakill.

Oshry told PC Gamer that New Blood’s approach—staying relatively small, working remotely and avoiding a reliance on endless franchise sequels—is the only model he wants for the studio. If that way of working stopped being viable, he said, he would rather end the company than look for publisher or investor money.

He also said he has no intention of selling New Blood or handing it to someone else. Oshry imagines the studio wrapping up in around 20 years, with its team able to leave on its own terms and enjoy what comes next. He hopes players will remember its games fondly, without the company having an unhappy ending after an acquisition or financial trouble.

Oshry compares New Blood to a band, describing its games as albums and the team as performers who each contribute. Like a band choosing when to retire, he said, the studio should close before its members grow tired of the work.
