Nintendo’s latest Ask the Developer feature appears to clarify which team is leading development of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. The interview includes longtime Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma and members of Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development (EPD) Production Group No. 3, the group responsible for the series’ mainline entries.
The information suggests that the remake is being developed by Nintendo’s core Zelda team rather than being led by an external studio. Fans had previously speculated that Grezzo or Monolith Soft could be involved because of their past work on the franchise.
Grezzo developed the Nintendo 3DS remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, as well as the Switch remake of Link’s Awakening. The studio also co-developed Echoes of Wisdom with EPD Production Group No. 3.
Monolith Soft, the Nintendo subsidiary known for the Xenoblade series, has supported several recent Zelda projects. Its credited contributions include Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Neither Grezzo nor Monolith Soft is mentioned in the first two parts of Nintendo’s feature. That does not rule out a supporting role for either studio, however, and the remaining installments are scheduled for publication on November 3. The final credits may provide a clearer picture when the remake launches on November 5.
For now, the available information indicates that veterans from Nintendo’s main Zelda development group are leading the Ocarina of Time remake.
