The preload for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 is approaching, giving players who purchased the digital edition the chance to download the game before launch. Because the title is expected to require substantial storage and may take considerable time to download, PS5 owners should check their automatic download settings in advance.

The key requirement is allowing the console to connect to the internet while in Rest Mode. On PS5, open Settings, select System, then Power Saving, and go to Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable the option to remain connected to the internet.

Next, open Saved Data and Game/App Settings, select Automatic Updates, and activate both Automatic Download and Auto-Install in Rest Mode. These settings allow the console to begin downloading and installing available game data without requiring the system to be turned on manually.

A separate option must also be enabled for Grand Theft Auto VI itself. After pre-ordering the game, open the Game Library, select the title, and choose the timer to access the screen containing the automatic download option.

The original guide states that players should have at least 210 GB of free storage available, while recommending leaving additional space available as a precaution. With these settings enabled and the PS5 left in Rest Mode, the console should be ready to start the preload when it becomes available.
