Scarlett Johansson says her role in The Batman: Part II was unusually difficult to work out, describing the experience as giving her “a lot of existential angst.” She did not disclose which character she is playing.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight about her new film Paper Tiger, Johansson was asked which of her upcoming franchise roles, in The Exorcist: Martyrs or The Batman: Part II, had taken her furthest outside her comfort zone. She singled out The Batman sequel, saying the role was “very hard to figure out” and difficult to crack. Johansson added that she did not know whether the challenge came from the role itself or where she was in her life.

Rumors have suggested she could play Gilda Dent or Poison Ivy, but Johansson did not confirm either possibility.

The sequel has resumed filming in the UK. Steven Soderbergh is overseeing the final stages of shooting while director Matt Reeves handles a family matter; Reeves is expected to return to directing during post-production. The Batman: Part II is scheduled to open in theaters on February 18, 2028.
