Sony Pictures has acquired the film adaptation rights to Mouthwashing, the horror game from Swedish studio Wrong Organ. The live-action project is being developed through the studio’s Screen Gems label and is currently in the writing stage.

Karyn Kusama will direct, with Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay writing the screenplay. The film will be produced under the Crooked Highway banner by Scott Derrickson, C. Robert Cargill and Vince Cheng, in partnership with Screen Gems.

Released for PC in September 2024 by publisher Critical Reflex, Mouthwashing follows the crew of the Tulpar, a spacecraft left adrift after its captain deliberately crashes it. The survivors face dwindling supplies and a growing psychological crisis aboard the confined vessel. The game uses a non-linear narrative and surreal first-person sequences to explore paranoia, denial and guilt.

The adaptation’s plot details have not been disclosed. No cast has been announced, and there is no confirmed filming schedule or release date.
