Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have released Echoes of Central Park, a paid expansion for The Division 2. It is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC for €19.99. The developers describe it as the game’s biggest content release since Warlords of New York, which launched in 2020, and it lets players explore Central Park for the first time.
The story unfolds in Central Park and Manhattan’s Upper West Side, areas reshaped by the pandemic. Once used as a mass grave during the outbreak’s early days, Central Park is now overgrown and surrounded by rumors of a new virus variant and an unknown threat. The expansion’s horror-influenced story takes place after Warlords of New York and is told through a flashback narrated from one character’s perspective.
Players can recruit three new companions: Brayleigh Callahan, Elwood Franklin and Morse Feeney. Each has a distinct backstory and combat style, and players can choose one to join their missions and provide tactical benefits.
The update also adds an endgame activity that challenges players to survive in Central Park without GPS, collect gear and face increasingly dangerous enemies. Other additions include six skill variants, a gear set and the exotic weapon The Ratel. The expansion can be played solo or in co-op, and players below level 40 can use an automatic boost to access the new content.
Some Steam players have objected to restrictions that prevent Prototype gear from reaching its full effectiveness in the expansion. Ubisoft says the limits are temporary and are intended to preserve the challenge and tension of the new experience; the company plans to remove them later.
