Bethesda has revealed that the next game in its fantasy role-playing series is titled The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. The name appeared in a video celebrating the studio’s 40th anniversary, alongside clues pointing to Hammerfell as the game’s setting.
In the teaser, wind sweeps across a sand dune, gradually uncovering an Elder Scroll. The desert landscape, the title Sentinel and a passage shown at the end all suggest a return to Hammerfell, a region described in the source as both mountainous and desert-covered. Sentinel is also the name of a city in the region.
The passage is attributed to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving Hammerfell’s High Queen Iradne, and dated to the 206th year of the Fourth Era. It describes a brief glimpse of a lost future and a victory undone. The text reinforces the importance of the Elder Scrolls to the story and introduces two characters, Yazar and Iradne, who have not previously been mentioned in the material cited in the original report.
Moth Priests are scholars devoted to studying the Elder Scrolls. The date in the passage is five years after the events of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, but it is not clear whether the new game’s story will take place then or whether the date is simply part of an older quotation.
Bethesda said it will be some time before it shares more information, adding that development is continuing. The game was first announced in June 2018.
