Bethesda Game Studios has officially announced the subtitle for its highly anticipated sequel to Skyrim, revealing that the next installment will be titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Alongside the name, a new logo was unveiled during a video message delivered by longtime franchise director Todd Howard. This announcement serves as a centerpiece celebration for Bethesda's 40th anniversary.

The confirmation validates a report from the previous week regarding the game's subtitle. Earlier this summer, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma played a demo of The Elder Scrolls VI and teased the title in a social media post by replacing the name with eight asterisks. It has since been confirmed that those asterisks corresponded precisely to the eight letters in the word Sentinel.

Sentinel is a city located within the province of Hammerfell on the continent of Tamriel, the setting for The Elder Scrolls series. Geographically, the city sits on the northwest coast beside Iliac Bay. Hammerfell itself is positioned due west of Cyrodiil, the location of Oblivion, and southwest of Skyrim. Bethesda noted in the announcement that The Elder Scrolls 5 remains the studio's most played game in terms of total lifetime players. The province of Hammerfell shares its northern border with High Rock and meets the Abacean Sea to the west.

The official reveal marks the first significant news regarding the project since its initial announcement in 2018. While fans have waited years for details, it is likely that several more years will pass before the game becomes playable on Xbox and PC platforms. The future of a PlayStation release remains uncertain given Xbox CEO Asha Sharma's renewed focus on console exclusives, though the title represents a major asset for Microsoft in attracting users to its ecosystem. Fans are now looking toward next year's Xbox Showcase in June for a potential full reveal.
