Nightdive has unveiled the first trailer for Thief: The Tarnished Mirror, a new official expansion planned for the upcoming Thief remaster. The project is being developed by the team behind The Black Parade, a 2023 mod that became one of the most notable additions to the series in years.
The expansion will include four new missions designed to act as a bridge between Thief: The Dark Project and Thief 2: The Metal Age. According to the accompanying press release, its levels will take advantage of modern technology to create larger and more ambitious environments than the hardware of the 1990s could support.
The trailer shows locations that retain Thief’s visual identity while introducing greater verticality than the 1997 original. It also features interiors built from familiar series assets but arranged into more unusual and unexpected spaces.
The Tarnished Mirror will also explore the horror elements associated with Thief, an aspect the press release says will be handled in a similar spirit to The Black Parade. That mod was noted for pushing the series’ unsettling atmosphere further, particularly through its treatment of undead-themed content.
The expansion is scheduled to release next month together with the Thief remaster.
