The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake has become the highest-rated game of 2026 so far on Metacritic, with an average score of 96 from more than 80 reviews. The remake is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.
The score also places the game among Metacritic’s top 30 titles of all time, according to the available rankings. It falls short of the original Nintendo 64 version’s average of 99, though that score is based on 22 reviews.
Reviews have praised the remake’s updated controls and refreshed visuals, while also highlighting the original game’s enduring design and structure. The remake retains the 1998 adventure while adding quality-of-life improvements, extra content, Spanish voice acting, a manual jump option and a more developed narrative.
