Attack on Titan 3 will retell the series from the fall of Shiganshina to the Rumbling through the perspective of a customizable character who does not appear in the original manga. Developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, the game was announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 and is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
The protagonist is an elite engineer who is traumatized after losing their squad on a first mission. Reassigned as an instructor to the 104th Training Corps, the character becomes a mentor to Eren and the other recruits. Producer Hideo Suzuki told IGN that this opening setback was intended to establish the Titans as a threat and give the protagonist a reason to return to battle with greater resolve.
The story will use first-person cutscenes to put players closer to events affecting the Scout Regiment, while keeping the anime’s storyline intact. Suzuki said the team chose to cover the narrative from beginning to end rather than adapt only the later episodes.
Combat has been revised, with players able to anchor their Omni-Directional Mobility gear to buildings and trees, manage their altitude and move beneath obstacles. The developers have also increased the challenge by improving enemy systems and combat patterns. New encounters include battles against Marley’s forces and the Nine Titans. Against the War Hammer Titan, players must break a new “Break Gauge” before they can deal meaningful damage.
Relationships with characters will also feed into missions. Players can share meals and give gifts to build stronger bonds, then bring those companions on expeditions. These allies can work with the player to perform special techniques called Buddy Arts.
Players with save data from Attack on Titan 2 or Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle can also receive a squad member named after their previous protagonist, with unique skills. The eligible save data must be stored on the device running the new game. The opening sequence is being produced by MAPPA, the studio behind the anime’s final season.
