The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to receive its third expansion, Songs of the Past, in 2027. The add-on will bring a new region to explore, new monsters and further stories, according to details shared by CD Projekt Red staff in an interview with IGN at the Lucca Comics & Games festival.
Level design lead Miles Tost said the new area, called Lettin, is intended to feel distinct through its landscape, traversal and cultural identity. The team is not planning to add a new movement mechanic, he said; instead, it aims to give each region its own character, as seen in Skellige’s mountainous terrain and reliance on boats, or the wider spaces of No Man’s Land.
Lettin’s influences include British elements among its aristocracy and Polish countryside references in its architecture. Tost also pointed to Bracket, a local drink made by combining honey and beer, as an example of how small cultural details can shape the wider setting. Honey and hops are part of the area’s economy, and the region’s honey also connects to the Swarmion, a new monster shown in the demo that uses hornets for protection.
Writer Paula Meissner said the expansion’s developers work regularly with CD Projekt Red’s lore team to check that the story remains consistent with the books, games and other franchise material. She noted that some plot challenges concern topics not yet revealed, without providing further details.
Tost said the studio wants to expand the established lore without simply retconning it. He cited the return of Regis in Blood and Wine as an example of how an apparent contradiction can be made plausible through an explanation: Regis had recovered only a fraction of his power and received help from another higher vampire. The approach, he said, is to find credible ways to build on the existing story.
