With N7 Day approaching on November 7, several companies appear to have Mass Effect merchandise plans in motion. Their promotions come less than two weeks after publisher EA shut down BioWare and canceled the next Mass Effect game, leaving the franchise’s annual celebration without the studio that traditionally marked it.
Collectibles brand Youtooz has teased figures of Mordin, Joker and Liara. Clothing and accessories retailer Insert Coin has announced that its Mass Effect collection is back, while Moor-Art Gallery has promoted a limited-edition art and apparel collection, with a reveal scheduled for November 6.
The promotions may have been arranged months before BioWare’s closure. More merchandise and sales could appear in the days before N7 Day, which falls on a Saturday this year. However, the shutdown and the #SaveMassEffect campaign may affect fans’ willingness to buy products that benefit EA as the license holder.
BioWare’s closure has also left fans without the N7 Day updates the studio might have planned. Information about the canceled project, referred to in the report as Mass Effect: Universe, has instead emerged through a leaked internal pitch trailer and developers’ comments about its connection to the original trilogy.
Fans are using N7 Day to continue the #SaveMassEffect campaign. One planned effort aims to increase the number of concurrent players in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Steam as a show of support for the series.
