The absence of Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode in the Legendary Edition previously caused significant disappointment among fans. However, the ME3Tweaks modding team has announced they have successfully revived and enhanced this feature after three years of development. According to modder Audemus, the project is not merely a port of the original Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer but an extensive remaster that integrates native Legendary Edition capabilities.
The updated experience includes controller support, HDR compatibility, and an overhauled user interface. Technical improvements involve rebaked level lighting, upscaled and redrawn textures, upgraded shaders, and enhanced networking with better server replication. The team has also implemented extensive bug fixes and established a stable format to facilitate future mod support and easier installation.
New gameplay options are being introduced, including a mode called "Unified" that combines enemies from multiple factions. Players will have the flexibility to join servers hosted by ME3Tweaks or set up their own private instances. This group is known for previously reviving the Pinnacle Station expansion, a lost DLC for the original Mass Effect that was also excluded from the remaster.
The multiplayer mod is scheduled for release on N7 Day. On the same date, composer Sam Hulick plans to release a re-scored version of the leaked Mass Effect Universe trailer.
