Dead by Daylight’s developer has apologized after a team member gave streamer TheBurntPeanut free DLC, items and in-game currency over Halloween weekend. The gift was made while he was playing the game, but the stream was not sponsored, according to the report.
After TheBurntPeanut offered to return the content or pay for it, an official Dead by Daylight account told him: “We can take the heat. They are yours to keep.” The developer later reversed that decision, saying in a social media post that it had “removed the content that was granted to the creator.”
The incident drew criticism over the decision to give a substantial amount of paid content to a streamer, as well as concerns about whether the creator’s public record aligned with the game’s stated values. Dead by Daylight’s team acknowledged that it had not properly reviewed the creator’s past content or discussed the decision as a group.
The developer said its community values include respect, transparency and diversity, and that it wants to work with creators whose words and actions support those principles. It also said it will update its request and approval processes to ensure that people representing Dead by Daylight reflect the team’s values.
