Mark Tilbury has offered a playful argument for buying GTA 6: the game could save players $5,000 by keeping them entertained at home. The figure comes from comparing its price with the cost of going out, rather than from a guaranteed saving.

Tilbury’s example assumes the Ultimate Edition costs $100 and takes 80 hours to complete. That works out to $1.25 per hour of play. If players also spend time on side missions and exploring the map, he estimates the cost could fall to 50 cents per hour.

At four hours of play each evening, that would amount to 50 nights of entertainment. Tilbury then compares the $100 game purchase with a night out that could cost the same amount, arriving at his claim that GTA 6 “actually saves you $5,000.”

The calculation depends on players choosing to stay in instead of spending money elsewhere; buying the game does not automatically reduce anyone’s expenses. The article also notes that players may continue going out, while playing GTA 6 for more than 50 days could make the cost per hour lower still.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC edition is expected in 2027.
