Mob Entertainment has reportedly laid off nearly the entire team responsible for its new title, Escape From Playtime. The news emerged from a LinkedIn post published on November 4, 2026, by a former lead game designer at the studio. The individual stated that the mass dismissal included themselves and almost all other staff members working on the project, urging the industry to assist those affected in finding new opportunities.

In their message, the former designer expressed pride in the team's accomplishments, describing the released title as fantastic despite the difficult circumstances. They extended gratitude to colleagues who were not part of the layoffs and acknowledged the challenges facing the group. The announcement has raised concerns among fans regarding the game's future, particularly given that Escape From Playtime was released only two weeks prior on October 21, 2026.

Escape From Playtime is an online survival co-op experience for two to eight players set within the Poppy Playtime universe. In the game, participants control Smiling Critters plushes while scavenging for resources and evading monstrous mascots. Despite the significant reduction in staff, Mob Entertainment has confirmed that the game will remain active.

Tyler Scott Sanchez, the community manager for Mob Entertainment, addressed the situation on the game's official Discord channel. He acknowledged the difficulty of parting ways with talented team members who contributed significantly to bringing the title to life. While expressing gratitude for their work, Sanchez clarified that development on Escape From Playtime is continuing.

The studio outlined several planned improvements based on player feedback, including updates to matchmaking systems and a revised schedule for introducing larger enemy types. Additionally, the roadmap includes efforts to make the existing map more diverse and interesting. Sanchez emphasized the importance of transparency regarding the game's status, promising continued communication about the development process even though not all questions can be answered immediately.
