Phantom Blade Zero has achieved a major commercial debut for S-Game, selling more than 4 million units within 72 hours of its release. The game has also exceeded 833,000 simultaneous players on Steam.
The results are notable because Phantom Blade Zero is a new intellectual property and the first AAA project from a Chinese studio that was largely unknown to Western players. Its launch also comes only days before the arrival of the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and GTA 6.
The game has received strong critical and player feedback. Phantom Blade Zero currently holds a Metacritic score of 88 on PC and 87 on PS5, while its Steam user reviews give it an average rating of 90%.
Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, the performance of Phantom Blade Zero could strengthen support for Chinese-developed games during this year’s awards season. It has already been mentioned alongside Wukong and Stellar Blade by players who view these releases as major challenges to established Western studios.
