Rockstar Games has confirmed the specific storage requirements for Grand Theft Auto 6 on next-generation consoles. The studio announced that the pre-download file will require up to 212 GB of free space, urging players to ensure they have sufficient capacity to begin downloading as soon as possible. While the exact size may vary depending on the specific device, the company did not provide a breakdown for individual models such as the PS5 Pro, standard PS5, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S in their official statement.

The massive file size aligns with Rockstar's previous descriptions of the game as its largest, most detailed, and realistic open world to date. The title follows the adventures of Jason Duval and Lucía Caminos across the state of Leónida. This installation size more than doubles that of Red Dead Redemption 2, which required nearly 100 GB on PS4 and 107 GB on Xbox One, with PC versions ranging between 120 GB and 130 GB due to higher visual fidelity.

With a footprint of up to 212 GB, GTA 6 becomes the largest single-game installation for consoles, surpassed only by Call of Duty HQ, which reaches 250 GB but includes multiple components such as campaigns, Warzone, and multiplayer modes. For context, the available storage on current hardware varies significantly: the standard PS5 offers approximately 667 GB, while the PS5 Pro provides around 1.9 TB. The Xbox Series X with a 1 TB drive has roughly 809 GB of usable space, whereas the Xbox Series S with a 512 GB drive offers approximately 364 GB.

Pre-loading for the game will be available starting November 10 via the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, preceding the official launch on November 19. In addition to the digital release, Rockstar has revealed that a physical map of GTA 6 will be available for purchase through the Rockstar Store. The developer also plans to publish a free printable poster and map on their official website. As of now, no PC version has been officially announced for the title, which arrives more than thirteen years after Grand Theft Auto V.
