Sony sent some PS5 owners an alert on November 2 offering up to $400 for their consoles through trade-in service Back Market. A screenshot of the notice was shared on the ResetEra gaming forum. The message said customers who sell their console could receive payment into a nominated bank account and invited them to check its trade-in value.

The full $400 offer reportedly requires customers to send in two DualSense controllers. The amount matches the launch price of the all-digital PS5 in 2020. The console’s official price has since risen to $600, while used PS5s listed on eBay are currently selling for around $435, according to the report.

Sony’s offer follows similar trade-in outreach from Xbox. The company has contacted some owners who have not used their Xbox Series X or Series S consoles recently, offering up to $375 for them.

The report also notes that used PS5 Pro consoles are being sold by GameStop for as much as $1,400, and suggests owners may get more by selling directly rather than trading in.
