Maya Hawke has been cast in a key role in Legendary and Hasbro’s live-Action Magic: The Gathering movie, according to Deadline. She is the first actor officially attached to the project, which is expected to feature an ensemble cast.

The film will be written and directed by Matt Johnson, with Aidan Fitzgerald and Noah Gardner as co-writers. Legendary and Hasbro are also planning a television series connected to the franchise.

The companies announced their partnership and plans for a Magic: The Gathering movie in 2025. Johnson’s involvement was reported in July 2026. The project follows several earlier attempts to bring the card game to screens, including plans involving Universal, 20th Century Fox and Netflix that did not move forward.
