The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 update reduces the number of UAV Towers in DMZ, the game’s extraction mode. The patch, released November 2 for PC, Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, targets a strategy in which PvP-focused players head to the towers early in a match to find opponents on the map.
Activating a UAV Tower reveals rival players’ locations to the player who activates it and their squad. The towers’ frequent availability drew players to the same areas to hunt opponents or avoid them, while leaving those less interested in PvP easier to track from the start.
Under the update, UAV Towers will no longer appear at every point of interest. Their locations will be random, their spawn rate has been cut by 40%, and no more than one will appear in the same area. Deadtown is an exception because some missions there require multiple towers.
The towers’ detection functions remain unchanged, including their ability to reveal players heading to an extraction point, another feature criticized by the community. Activision has, however, doubled the duration of the Sedative Inhaler tactical trait to 120 seconds. It temporarily protects players from radar, marking, thermal vision and UAV Towers.
The trait is also due to gain protection against upgraded UAV Towers, which scan the map for the entire match, at some point during Season 1. The season begins November 6, alongside a Call of Duty: Warzone update that will launch on Switch 2 the same day.
