Ubisoft and at least two other companies are reportedly in talks with Microsoft to buy Arkane Studios. Bloomberg reported that several bidders have made offers, but no decision has been reached.
Arkane was given until December to find a buyer, extending an earlier November deadline following union efforts. Microsoft has also considered selling the studio to its management, according to the report.
A successful sale could prevent Arkane’s closure and potentially preserve up to 217 jobs. It could also allow the team to complete Marvel’s Blade, though Bloomberg reported that the game is expected to be released within the next year or two.
Arkane is among the studios Microsoft has sought to divest. Double Fine, Compulsion Games and Undead Labs have become independent, while the future of Arkane and Ninja Theory has remained uncertain. Ninja Theory has reportedly struggled to find a buyer.
With Arkane’s deadline now set for December, its ownership could become clearer in the coming weeks.
