World of Warcraft: Forever’s launch began with a brief stretch of login trouble, but the release has otherwise been running smoothly, contrary to the concerns of players expecting a more difficult start.

When the countdown reached zero at 3 p.m. PT, players faced short queues. After getting through them, they could see the available rulesets, but the options were grayed out. Players spent around 30 minutes retrying before the rulesets became available and the game started working as intended.

Forever takes a different approach from earlier versions of World of Warcraft. Rather than choosing an individual server, players select a ruleset, such as player versus environment, roleplaying or player versus player. Players who choose the same ruleset are placed across an interconnected group of servers.

The change appears to have helped avoid some problems associated with previous WoW Classic launches, which could involve long queues and login issues. After the initial disruption, Forever has seen little lag and few reported problems. Its starting areas are busy, though players can still make progress on quests.

Some players on Reddit have described the release as one of Blizzard’s smoothest launches, with one calling it possibly the best the company has had.
